Charles Finney - a revivalist preacher warned nearly two centuries ago:If there is a decay of conscience, If the public press lacks moral discernment, If the church is degenerate and worldly, If the world loses its interest in Christianity, If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away: the pulpit is responsible for it.
Drag queen story times and pornographic books in our public libraries, rainbow festivals and pride parades in our city streets, indoctrination and sexualisation of children as young as three, dangerous gender ideologies which include life-long drug regimens and bodily mutilation of our young, the adoption of children by homosexual men, babies born alive and left to die. Satan rules when the church stays silent, undermining its role as the moral and spiritual beacon in society.
The Australian has been reporting recently about the deeply evil acts of child sex abuse that took place at a United Church kindergarten in Brisbane, abuse that spanned several years with dozens of victims and led to the church allegedly accusing the whistle-blower of “damaging its reputation and future profitability,” even then there is no condemnation. Shouldn’t the church be falling over itself to disassociate with that? We are seeing members of our own congregations publicly support what God calls abomination and form ungodly alliances to further personal agendas. Speaking out brings distressed cries of division and discord and we are encouraged to stay silent for the sake of unity. But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. Jude 17-19
It is true that the scriptures tell us that when we come together in unity, God will command a blessing on us, but what about ungodly unity with those who “follow their own ungodly desires?” It serves only to prioritise comfort and an appearance of togetherness over righteousness, holiness and a commitment to follow God’s word. It provides a form of godliness but without the power.Unity is a Biblical ideal that we must all strive for, but preserving Biblical truth and integrity, defending against sin and moral decay are an imperative that does not permit compromise. The adoption of the values and systems of the world by some has brought in a season of exposure and division on a global scale. So be it.
A Godly separation cleanses the body of Christ, establishes true believers in a Godly unity and allows the church to be “salt and light” again reflecting Christ’s transformative power and truth.
